Steve Bercu

steve bercu Steve Bercu is co-owner of BookPeople in Austin and currently President-elect of the American Booksellers Association Board of Directors. He began his retail life at the age of five in his family’s toy store (the first in Dallas). Every store in the shopping area was locally owned then. Customers knew the owners of the stores and knew they were their neighbors. That experience has been the strongest influence on his sense of retail. He founded the Austin Independent Business Alliance in 2001 and still serves as president. He is committed to local, independent business and seeing that it play an important role in future retail.

Ron Bilodeau

bilodeau Ron Bilodeau is a graphic designer specializing in book template design and digital media. He has designed and refined interior templates for Cooks Illustrated and O'Reilly Media. In addition to his design work, Ron is using InDesign to develop a seamless workflow for easily exporting print-ready PDFs and web-ready digital formats from the same source files. He is currently the Production and Design Specialist at O'Reilly, where he is focusing on producing valid ePub documents from InDesign.

David Blatner

david blatner David Blatner is the author or co-author of 15 books, including Real World InDesign and InDesign for QuarkXPress Users, and presents many InDesign video titles at lynda.com. He is the Editorial Director of InDesign Magazine and the co-creator of InDesignSecrets.com, the number one source of InDesign information on the planet. Diane Burns

diane burns Diane Burns is an author, trainer, consultant, and founder of San Francisco-based TransPacific Digital, a leading print and digital localization company. She is an Adobe Certified Instructor in InDesign and Digital Publishing Suite (DPS). She developed and teaches the InDesign curriculum at UC Berkeley Extension and provides custom training and consulting services to corporations and publishing companies throughout the United States. A regular contributor to InDesign Magazine, she is the co-author of the Adobe Press book, Digital Publishing with Adobe InDesign CS6. She is also an author for lynda.com's Online Training Library. Sandee Cohen

sandee cohenSandee Cohen is the only third-party author to have written educational materials for all versions of InDesign. Her latest books are Digital Publishing with Adobe InDesign CS6 and the InDesign CS6 Visual QuickStart Guide. She has spoken at many conferences and seminar around the world.

Colleen Cunningham

colleen cunninghamColleen Cunningham is an eBook Developer at F+W Media, Inc and an adjunct professor at Emerson College in the Department of Writing, Literature and Publishing. As a print book designer, Colleen found that having a strong sense of order, organization, and information hierarchy could be directly applied to ebook design and has transitioned in-house to full-time ebook developer. A member of AIGA and Bookbuilders of Boston, she also presents regularly on the challenging and ever-changing, yet rewarding, world of ebook production. Venues include the Digital Book World Conference, HOW Design Conference, Bookbuilders of Boston Spring Forum Series, Boston InDesign User Group and the Massachusetts College of Art. She is a founding member of the friendly and helpful #ePrdctn group on Twitter (@BookDesignGirl).

Anne-Marie Concepción

anne-marie concepcionAnne-Marie "HerGeekness" Concepcion owns a busy cross-media design studio in Chicago and is one of the industry's best-known Adobe trainers and consultants. She also presents many video tutorials at lynda.com. In addition to her work here, Anne-Marie hosts InCopySecrets.com, for editors and designers working in an InDesign/InCopy worfklow, and writes the free monthly e-zine InCopyFlow. Colin Fleming

anne-marie Colin Fleming is the Digital Publishing Evangelist for Adobe Systems. He speaks to and helps a variety of users ranging from cartographers, medical illustrators, and advertising/design agencies to publishing and print media outlets. Before joining Adobe, Colin was a freelance trainer specializing in workflow conversions to InDesign and the Creative Suite. He has taught intense, high-level classes in design and production techniques since 1999. He is an Adobe Certified Instructor in many Adobe Creative Suite applications, Adobe Acrobat, and Lightroom, as well as a Creative Suite Master Instructor. Colin has also published more than a dozen videos on AdobeTV.

Nigel French

nigel frenchNigel is a graphic designer, photographer, author, and teacher living in Brighton, UK. Between 1991 and 2001 Nigel operated Small World Productions, a graphic design firm in San Francisco. In 2001 he became the director of the Graphic and Interactive Design program at University of California Berkeley Extension. He is the author of InDesign Type and Photoshop Unmasked, both from Adobe Press. Nigel travels internationally teaching InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom, and design classes.

James Fritz

james fritzJames graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. After beginning his career designing catalogs and collateral, he worked as a full time instructor for a training center and subsequently become an Adobe Certified Design Master. Today he is the Content Manager of Design at lynda.com. James has spoken at variety of conferences and groups including: the InDesign Secrets Print & Electronic Publishing Conference, Mogo-Media, AIGA, and multiple InDesign User Groups.

Erica Gamet

erica gametErica Gamet has been involved in graphics and pre-press for nearly 25 years. She is a speaker, writer, and trainer, focusing on Adobe InDesign, Apple Keynote and iBooks Author, and other print- and production-related topics. She regularly contributes to InDesign Magazine and Design Tools Monthly, tech edited How To Do Everything with Adobe InDesign CS4 from McGraw-Hill Osborne, and is the leader of the Denver InDesign User Group. Keith Gilbert

keith gilbertKeith Gilbert has worked as an independent consultant and educator in the design industry for 25 years for clients such as Apple, Adobe, Best Buy, Cargill, General Mills, Lands' End, Medtronic, Target and the United Nations. His work has taken him throughout the US and Canada, as well as to Barbados, Kenya and Monaco. He is an Adobe Certified Instructor in InDesign, InCopy, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat, and the Chapter Representative for the Minneapolis InDesign User Group. Rick Gordon

rick gordon Rick Gordon brings 23 years of experience in print production and design, working as production manager for publishers and production houses, along with freelance work. He has been the Director of Production at Shelter Publications since 1997. Rick has also produced a string of critically acclaimed releases for Shelter Publications, including Stretching, by Bob Anderson, which won the first prize in the Enhanced eBook category in the DBW Publishing Innovation Awards. Targeted to iBooks, it uses JavaScript liberally, often in ways previously not implemented in ebooks. A portion of his session will focus on some of those techniques. Rick is currently working on an ebook on enhanced ebook techniques using JavaScript and jQuery.

Chris Kitchener

chris kitchener Chris Kitchener is the Lead Product Manager for Adobe InDesign. Today Chris spends his time focusing on the evolving world of publishing across all forms of media—from print to web, mobile, and beyond. Before moving to the US Chris worked at Adobe UK with influential design, advertising, print and publishing companies, helping them in their transition to InDesign. Chris speaks regularly at industry events on topics such as Adobe InDesign, InDesign Server, workflow productivity, and the future of print and digital publishing. In his spare time he cleans up after his two young children and a smelly dog.

Austin Kleon

austin kleon Austin Kleon is a writer who draws. He’s the author of two best-selling books: Steal Like An Artist (Workman, 2012) is an illustrated manifesto for creativity in the digital age, and Newspaper Blackout (Harper Perennial, 2010) is a collection of poetry made by redacting words from newspaper articles with a permanent marker.
His work has been featured on NPR’s Morning Edition, PBS Newshour, and in The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. New York Magazine called his work "brilliant," The Atlantic called him "positively one of the most interesting people on the Internet," and The New Yorker said his poems resurrect the newspaper when everybody else is declaring it dead. He speaks about creativity in the digital age for organizations such as Pixar, Google, SXSW, TEDx, and The Economist. Olav Martin Kvern

Margot Knorr Mancini

margot knorr mancini Margot Knorr Mancini is the CEO and Founder of Technology for Publishing, a Boston-based publishing consulting firm that has helped numerous publishers redefine their approach to publishing content. In addition to content strategy consulting, Margot and her all female team provide InDesign, InCopy, Publishing Systems, and Digital Publishing Suite training, support, and workflow implementation services. Margot helped implement Adobe DPS for several early adopters such as National Geographic, Men's Health, Motor Trend, and Cook's Illustrated – and has developed DPS specific tips, handbooks, virtual training, and a DPS reference apps titled DPSCreate and DPSPublish.

Brooks Jensen

He works with ideas, flits of thought, emotions, moods, stories, artifacts. A photographer, a designer, a typographer, an audio engineer, a visual artist, an aural artist. Deke McClelland

deke mcclellandDeke McClelland is the author of more than 50 video courses on creative imaging, graphics, 3D, and design for the industry-leading online library lynda.com. One of the most award-winning writers in the business, Deke has written over 80 books translated into 24 languages, with more than 4 million copies in print. These have included the Photoshop Bible, several For Dummies books, and his own One-on-One series published under Deke Press. Claudia McCue

She is a Certified Technical Trainer, and an Adobe Certified Expert for Photoshop, Acrobat, Illustrator, and InDesign.

Thad McIlroy

thad mcilroyThad McIlroy is an electronic publishing analyst and author based in San Francisco and Vancouver, BC. His site, The Future of Publishing, is the most in-depth on the industry. During the past 25 years he has educated and entertained audiences around the world on every aspect of digital publishing. His latest book (co-authored) is The Metadata Handbook: A Book Publisher’s Guide to Creating and Distributing Metadata for Print and Ebooks.

Thomas Phinney

thomas phinneyThomas Phinney is Guru of Fonts & Typography at Extensis, since 2009, and also does outside consulting and type design. He has an MS in Printing, specializing in design and typography, from the Rochester (NY) Institute of Technology. Prior to Extensis, he worked in fonts at Adobe for over a decade, lastly as product manager for fonts and global typography. Thomas is a board member of the international typographic association (ATypI) since 2004, writes occasionally for Communication Arts, and is an invited outside expert to the Book Industry Study Group's Fonts in eBooks Working Group..

Gabriel Powell

gabriel powellGabriel Powell is the author of Instant InDesign, Creating eBooks with Adobe InDesign CS4 & CS5, and Learn Adobe Photoshop CS4 by Video. He is also a contributing author to InDesign Magazine and the producer of the Instant InDesign Video Podcast. As a Senior Solutions Consultant for Typefi Systems and an Adobe Certified Instructor, Gabriel teaches InDesign, Typefi Publish, and other applications to creative professionals throughout Western Europe and the United States. He specializes in automated XML publishing, template building, and eBook publishing. He is also the founder of The Netherlands InDesign User Group in Amsterdam.

Mike Rankin

Mira Rubin

Mira holds a BFA from Alfred University NY State College of Ceramics with concentrations in Bronze Sculpture and Photography, and an Associates degree in Multimedia and Animation from the Art Institute of Philadelphia.

Justin Seeley

He has several years experience in both print and web design, and has authored over 100 hours of instructional content to date. Eric Snowden

Russell Viers

russell viersRussell Viers started his career as a staff writer/photographer in 1981, at the age of 16 for his local daily newspaper. Since then, he has been involved in most facets of the newspaper business, as well as printing and publishing. For the past 11 years he has shared his vast knowledge of publishing production techniques as speaker, trainer and workflow consultant. As an Adobe Certified Instructor, his expertise is in teaching publishers how to use Adobe and Quark software to create better documents faster. His customer list is long and varied, but includes such names as Better Homes and Gardens, Ladies Home Journal, New York Times Regional Media Group, San Diego Union Tribune, Primedia Business and more. Chuck Weger

chuck wegerChuck Weger started Elara Systems in 1992 to focus on what is loosely termed “publishing systems,” which is the body of software and hardware necessary to conceptualize, create and produce printed and online publications. He specializes in workflow automation, architecting solutions using off-the-shelf or custom software to create and process pages quickly and efficiently. Chuck also designs and creates iOS apps, database and cloud-based solutions for client-specific needs. More than 15 years ago, he came up with the concept of "preflight," which changed graphic arts workflows forever (although that and a dollar won't get him on the subway). He also does work for vendors such as Adobe, Apple, Xerox, etc. both at the strategic level (whitepapers or other analysis) and tactical (writing and/or presenting training materials). Chuck is a well-known speaker and has written for many publications. Chuck left the DC Beltway a few years ago, and is now sequestered (!!) in the bucolic country town of Underhill, Vermont.
